Thief River Falls, MN — Winter comes alive in Thief River Falls with Frost Fest, a three-day community celebration packed with outdoor adventure, friendly competition, and family-friendly fun. The annual winter festival kicks off Friday, January 23, and runs through Sunday, January 25, offering events for all ages throughout the city.
Frost Fest begins Friday evening with a Snowman Building and Sculpting Competition at the Legacy Event Center, starting at 5:00 p.m. Creativity, teamwork, and winter spirit take center stage as participants launch the weekend festivities. Attendees can also enjoy the chance to Skate the River all weekend long, weather permitting.
Saturday, January 24, is packed with signature Frost Fest events. The day starts at 9:00 a.m. with the Annual January Jubilee, presented by the Thief River Falls Chamber of Commerce. At noon, warm up at the Soup and Chili Cookoff at The Eagles, featuring local favorites and comfort-food classics.
Also beginning at noon is the Fat Tire Bike Ride, running from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., with registration taking place earlier in the day at The Eagles. Adventure continues with the Frostbite Frenzy Race, a high-energy race around town from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., offering participants a chance to win $300 in cash prizes.
The weekend wraps up on Sunday, January 25, with a Breakfast Fundraiser benefiting the local School Track & Field Team from 9:00 a.m. to noon at The Eagles. Frost Fest concludes with one of its most anticipated events: a Anything-But-a-Sled Sledding Contest at Hartz Park from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., where creativity and courage are required to make it down the hill—no traditional sleds allowed.
